After playing a documentary filmmaker in Magalir Mattum, which crushes to pulp many pre conceived notion about women and their place in a household, Jyothika is all set to send chills down our spines in the role of a hot-headed, foul-mouthed cop in Bala’s Naachiyaar, which is slated to hit the screens worldwide on February 16.

A film by Bala
One need not have to be a fan of Bala to look forward to his work. It doesn’t even matter if you don’t like his films but every time his movie comes out, it reminds a lot of us that life is not hunky-dory and it could be as tragic and hard-hitting as anyone can imagine. He’s one of the few filmmakers who still believe in realism in cinema and never lets that angle get superseded by the commercial aspect of filmmaking.

If you’re a fan of Jyothika, get ready to see her in the most unconventional avatar yet in her career. The trailer of Naachiyaar made is proof to the fact that Jyothika’s character is most likely to make us cringe, but at the same time has piqued our curiosity. In the trailer, she’s seen torturing and kicking people. There’s even a dialogue where a senior official asks Jyothika - are you a police officer or a professional rowdy?

Popularly known as the ‘virgin boy’ among his fans, popular composer turned actor Prakash is set to shatter the image that has clouded his talent. In Naachiyaar, he plays a slum boy who sells fruits for a livelihood. When the film’s trailer released, filmmaker Anurag Kashyap tweeted that Prakash looks unrecognizable in his new avatar and we can’t agree more. Known for extracting the best out of his actors, one shouldn’t be surprised if Prakash manages to turn in a career-best performance.
Ilayaraja’s music
After the national award-winning Tharai Thappattai, Bala and maestro Ilayaraja have teamed up for Naachiyaar, which features just one song. A thriller revolving around three characters, the film is said to be powered by the maestro’s pulsating background score. Raja’s last amazing score was from Mysskin’s crime thriller Onaayum Aattukkuttiyum. His work in Naachiyaar is sure to be one of the major highlights of the film.
A Bala film with a happy ending
If the trailer of Naachiyaar gave you the feeling that it’s going to be an intense thriller with a tragic end, let us tell you that you might be surprised.
