Vijay Deverakonda’s fitting reply to critics about the length of his role in Mahanati floors fans
Vijay Deverakonda plays the role of Vijay Antony in the recently released bilingual biopic of veteran south Indian actor Savitri titled Mahanati.
If you’re a die-hard Vijay Deverakonda fan and wondered why he played a small role in the recently released Savitri biopic Mahanati, you should read his latest tweets about his role in the film to understand why he didn’t have any second thoughts about being part of this prestigious project. When a fan pointed out that he was disappointed to read reviews that mentioned Deverakonda’s role as the weakest link, the fan said that it would be best if he didn’t watch the film.
Deverakonda took notice of the tweet and replied in the most dignified manner. He wrote that Mahanati is a film that deserves everyone’s attention. In a series of tweets as a reply to the fan’s tweet, Deverakonda explained why he didn’t mind being part of the project. “Reading the multiple opinions, good and critical, I’ll tell you this - sometimes you’ve got to be team player, it’s not always about trying to outshine, it’s about taking those singles and giving the star batsman the strike so She can hit it out of the park.”
He added, “My sole duty on this film was to be a support system to Madhuravani first, Savitri’s story next and Mahanati the film finally. In all consciousness I knew I was playing a small part in the bigger picture that came from Nag Ashwin’s genuine heart.”
He also explained that people should watch the film for the stellar performances of Keerthy Suresh, Dulquer Salmaan and Samantha Akkineni. He wrote, “Watch it for the producers and art director’s success in recreation of an era, Danny’s beautiful cinematography, Mickey’s touching music and your man’s supporting role.”
Finally, Deverakonda said everybody who was part of the project accepted the film to tell one story and that is of legendary southern actress Savitri. In the Nag Ashwin directorial, Vijay played a photojournalist, who helps Samantha’s character help find out about the real Savitri to the world.
Produced by Vyjayanthi Movies, the film features Keerthy Suresh as Savitri and Dulquer Salmaan as Gemini Ganeshan. The film throws the spotlight on the highs and lows in the life of Savitri and how she went on to become a Mahanati.
