Argentina’s Juan Martin del Potro ensured the Davis Cup quarterfinal against the Czech Republic would go down to the wire after he beat Tomas Berdych 6-4 6-4 6-4 to level the tie on Sunday.

The Czechs had high hopes of securing a place in the semi-finals after taking a 2-1 lead into the final day of the tie but world number five Del Potro ensured the 2008 runners-up stayed in the hunt as he eased past Berdych. “I did everything. I did very good serves and returns and I was feeling very well,” Del Potro said. Berdych, who broke Del Potro’s serve only once, praised his opponent.
“I expected a very difficult match, I wanted to try something and break his rhythm but I did not make it. ” he said.
