This was Argentina's 16th title, thus making them the most successful team in the 108-year history of the Copa America.
Captain Messi was unable to influence a break in the deadlock in the first half and limped off in the second half after twisting his ankle during open play. Making his 39th and possibly last Copa America appearance at age 37, Messi had one goal in the tournament.
