LONDON: The 2025-26 Formula E season has reached a dramatic climax this weekend at the ExCeL Circuit for the London E-Prix double-header, featuring one of the closest title fights in the sport’s history.
Just five points separate the top three drivers heading into the final two races of the season here. Andretti’s Jake Dennis leads the standings on 146 points, holding a razor-thin two-point advantage over Jaguar TCS Racing’s Mitch Evans (144) with Porsche’s Pascal Wehrlein lurking just behind in third on 141.
Reigning champion Oliver Rowland (132) also remains within mathematical striking distance, setting up an explosive showdown for the drivers’ world championship.
The battle for the teams’ title is equally fierce with Jaguar TCS Racing holding a 14-point cushion over Porsche. Both manufacturers have dominated the front-running pace throughout the year, but the high-intensity peloton racing format and London’s tight technical layout mean nothing can be taken for granted.
Mahindra’s Mortara eyes strong finish
While the spotlight naturally shines brightest on the top three contenders, Mahindra Racing arrives at the 2km long indoor-outdoor circuit as one of the standout turnaround stories of the season. Sitting fourth in the teams’ championship, the Indian outfit has enjoyed a major resurgence, backed by race wins and regular front-row starts.

{{/usCountry}}Leading Mahindra’s charge is Edoardo Mortara, who sits fifth in the drivers’ standings on 116 points. Reflecting on the team’s trajectory prior to the finale, Mortara highlighted the significant progress made over the past year.
“It’s been a positive season. Probably the best that we’ve had over these last three years. Showing that as a package, as a group, we’ve been improving year after year. We’ve had probably the best performances this year with pole positions and podiums,” Mortara told HT on Friday.
Despite the overall performance gain, Mortara’s second half of the campaign was plagued by severe misfortune, ranging from an onboard fire extinguisher going off in Sanya to safety car timing in Shanghai and tricky wet-weather strategy calls.
“For me personally, the last five races have been extremely frustrating. Some things are unfortunately a little bit out of our hands. With slightly more luck, we would have been there to fight for the championship,” Mortara added.
“In the end, the problem is that in this championship, it’s not really rewarding the pace in qualifying. When you start at the front, then probably you’re stuck with some choices regarding strategies that are making it sometimes tougher.”
Though bridging the gap to the leader is a formidable task, Mortara isn’t ruling anything out until the checkered flag falls.
“Until you don’t have a mathematical chance to win anymore, you’re still in it. It’s going to be up to me to try to do a good Saturday race. Then from there, we will see,” he concluded.
With 56 points left to drive for across Saturday and Sunday, all eyes will be on whether Dennis can hold off Evans and Wehrlein at the top, or if a late-season twist will hand the crown to a surprise victor.
