Jessica Bang, 18-year-old rookie professional golfer from Australia, passed away in a hospital in Thailand on Thursday, as per the WPGA Tour of Australasia.
On August 1, Bang collapsed while training in Thailand for an upcoming tournament and was subsequently taken to a hospital in Bangkok, where she received emergency brain surgery.
Following her demise, the WPGA Tour of Australasia issued a statement, saying: “(The) Australian golf community is deeply saddened by the passing of young tour member Jessica Bang in Thailand.”
“Jessica was an outstanding young talent who made a significant impression in her short time on the tour.”
Bang secured her position on the tour by successfully completing qualifying school at the end of the last year.
In February, she triumphed in the Women's New South Wales Open Regional Qualifying Event during only her fifth professional appearance.

The medical cause leading to Bang's death was identified as a brain hemorrhage and its complications. However, her family has not publicly revealed the cause of the bleeding, and no further underlying diagnosis has been provided.
Jessica Bang's family launched fundraiser
Bang's cousins set up an online fundraising campaign following her emergency surgery, with the initial aim of alleviating the increasing medical costs and ultimately facilitating her return to Australia, where she could pursue further treatment in the company of her family.
"We are truly heartbroken by this news," fundraiser organizer Janette Yoon said in an update. "However, we would like to continue to remember Jessica and celebrate her achievements, passion and dedication to golf."
The fundraiser successfully gathered almost 35,000 Australian dollars, receiving support from various members of the golf community.
Jessica Bang's career
Bang, who was born in South Korea, recently attained Australian citizenship and turned professional in November 2025 after qualifying through the WPGA Tour of Australasia qualifying school.
She achieved victory in just her fifth professional tournament.
In February, Bang won the 2026 Ford Women's NSW Open Regional Qualifying Event held at Moss Vale Golf Club, finishing with an impressive 8-under-par 65. This performance not only set a new course record but also secured her a five-stroke win with a total score of 13 under.
Bang achieved eight birdies and an eagle during the final round, successfully sinking a 30-foot putt at the 15th hole to distinguish herself from the competition. This performance elevated the nickname "Rookie Bang" from a term of endearment to a cautionary note regarding her rapid development.
Six months later, those words now bear an unbearable significance.
Bang had secured chances on the WPGA and KLPGA circuits and journeyed to Bangkok in pursuit of the next phase in her burgeoning career. The Australian golf community is now grieving not only the player she had become but also all that she never had the opportunity to demonstrate.
