Venus Williams out of French Open

American eighth seed Venus Williams was knocked out by Italy's 26th seed Flavia Pennetta in the third round.

American eighth seed Venus Williams was knocked out of the French Open on Friday by Flavia Pennetta of Italy, the 26th seed, in the third round.

Pennetta won 7-5, 6-3 and will now face Spanish qualifier Carla Suarez Navarro for a place in the quarter-finals.
