Why I’d still choose a double-door refrigerator for my kitchen
After using and testing different refrigerators over the years, I have realised that I don’t necessarily need the biggest refrigerator in the kitchen. What matters more to me is how easily I can use the space every day. And this is where I still prefer a double-door refrigerator.
It works better with the way I cook
A lot of Indian cooking means storing large vessels, containers, casseroles, vegetables and leftovers. I find the wider refrigerator section of a double-door model more useful for this. I can place a large container or vessel inside without having to rearrange everything around it.
I get more usable refrigerator space
I use the refrigerator section far more than the freezer. So, having a larger and more accessible fresh-food section makes more sense to me. I can keep vegetables, dairy, leftovers, bottles and everyday food items without constantly trying to make space.
It is easier to fit into my kitchen
Side-by-side refrigerators can be quite wide. That can be a problem if your kitchen does not have a lot of room around the refrigerator. I prefer a double-door because I can get good storage capacity without giving up as much floor and wall space.
I don’t need a huge freezer

I live with my husband, so most of the time there are just two of us using the refrigerator. Our food habits are also fairly straightforward. Most of the space in our refrigerator goes towards everyday things such as vegetables, milk, fruits, yoghurt, cold beverages, sauces and a few other essentials. For this kind of usage, I find the space in a good double-door refrigerator more than enough.
Even when our families visit us, I haven't really felt that we are running out of refrigerator space. Of course, this could be very different for a family that cooks and stores food in larger quantities, buys groceries in bulk or keeps a lot of frozen food at home.
That is where I think a side-by-side refrigerator can make more sense. If you have a larger family, regularly store cooked food, stock up on frozen items or simply need more refrigerator and freezer space, the larger capacity can be genuinely useful.
For my kitchen, though, I realised I would rather have the space I need for my everyday food than pay for a much larger refrigerator that I may not use to its full capacity.
