The towns of Ouatagouna, Karou and Deouteguef were simultaneously attacked around 6pm on Sunday, according to a note from the Asongo district administrator to the governor of Gao region.

After a terrible drought ravaged the Sahel in the 1970s and 1980s, many of Sawadogo's neighbours abandoned their farms in northern Burkina Faso. But he stayed.
The farmers are apprehensive that the government may abdicate its responsibility of buying grains at the minimum support price (MSP). This apprehension stems from the fact that the Shanta Kumar Committee recommended in 2015 that the Food Corporation of India hand over procurement operations to states, knowing fully well that the states did not have the funds to procure the grains.(HT file photo)
