Voting for by-elections to 54 seats in 10 states today

Along with the second phase of polling in the Bihar assembly elections, voting for 54 other assembly seats in 10 states will also take place on Tuesday in the first electoral test for their political parties in the post-Covid-19 era.

Allow us to contest or defer by-elections: K’taka MLAs to SC

Nath, a nine-time member of Parliament from Chhindwara, who was named the state’s chief minister in December, will have to win an assembly seat within six months of assuming office .

By-election results highlights: BJP wins Jasdan, Congress bags Kolebira

The results of the by-elections for Jasdan in Gujarat and Kolebira in Jharkhand were declared today.In Jharkhand’s Kolebira, Congress candidate Naman Bixal Kongari won by 9658 votes, whereas BJP candidate Kunvarji Bavaliya won by-elections to Jasdan assembly constituency by 19,985 votes. By-election in Gujarat’s Jasdan assembly constituency was necessitated after Congress leader and Koli community leader Kunvarji Bavaliya left the Congress and joined the BJP; he was named a cabinet minister in the Vijay Rupani government in July.In Jharkhand’s Kolebira assembly bypoll, the main contest is between the Congress, BJP and Jharkhand Party. The BJP has fielded Basant Soreng, while the Congress has put up Viksal Kongadi. The Jharkhand Party has put up Menon Ekka. Except Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM), Congress has the support of all opposition parties.Here are the highlights:

Hours before the 10-day long electioneering ended at 5pm on Thursday, BJP’s candidate L Chandrashekar in the Ramanagara assembly seat by-poll, resigned from the party and rejoined the Congress, as its leaders allegedly betrayed him by not campaigning for him.
