The department of animal husbandry on January 4, 2021, had notified detection of Avian Influenza (H5N8) in samples of dead ducks from Alappuzha and Kottayam districts in Kerala. A similar report of bird flu has also been received from poultry samples from Panchkula district of Haryana.

The state government has also announced relief for affected farmers-- they will be given Rs 100 for each culled duck. In three days at least 46,000 birds will be culled in Alappuzha 38,000 and 8000 in Kottayam. There is a ban on trading of ducks till further notice in the two districts.

Police said besides stab wounds, the woman also suffered electric shock. The gas stove was also found in the bed room with the nob turned on. The two were tied with a wire and electrocuted.

According to the police, they reached Kochi on March 9 and moved to Alappuzha on March 12. Both later developed diarrhoea and other complications and came to the medical college hospital for a check up. In the medical college hospital they were advised to go to the virology hospital and doctors there advised them to get quarantined.

A man admitted to an isolation ward in Kottayam died on Friday but state health authorities said he had not tested positive and the exact cause of death will be known only after the final report from the National Institute of Virology in Pune.
