Since withdrawal, 98% of 2,000 notes have been returned: RBI

The Reserve Bank of India reported that 98% of ₹2,000 notes have been returned since their withdrawal announcement in May 2023.

The RBI announced that 98% of <span class='webrupee'>₹</span>2,000 notes have been returned since May 2023, with their total value dropping to <span class='webrupee'>₹</span>7,117 crore. These notes can still be exchanged at RBI offices.(AFP)

Deadline to exchange 2,000 notes extended. What will happen if you miss it?

On September 2, the RBI had said that as much as 93 per cent of ₹2000 currency notes that were in circulation on May 19, have been returned to banks.

RBI on May 19 had announced withdrawal of <span class='webrupee'>₹</span>2,000 currency notes from circulation and gave public time till September 30 to either deposit such notes in accounts or exchange them at banks.(HT_PRINT)
