All the 46,639 seats were polled from morning 7 to evening 5 without any major glitches according to R Palaniswamy, State Election Commissioner, Tamil Nadu.

The ancient idol was among three idols stolen from the Kulasekaramudayar-Aramvalarth Nayagi temple at Kallidaikurichi in Tirunelveli district in 1982. In 1984, the district police had closed the case on the ground that they could not be traced.

A 43-year-old man has been sent to a mental hospital after he was allegedly caught eating a half-burned body in a crematorium in Tamil Nadu’s Tirunelveli district on Sunday, police said on Monday.
