US switches to e-registration for upcoming H-1B season

They will have to pay a fee of $10 at the time of registration, give only basic information about their company and each requested worker. They will not be required to file the whole application along with whatever documents are required this time, contrary to the practice thus far.

US to start accepting applications for H-1B visa from April 1

The H-1B visa is a non-immigrant visa that allows the US companies to employ foreign workers in speciality occupations that require theoretical or technical expertise. The technology companies depend on it to hire tens of thousands of employees each year from countries like India and China.

The denial rate was 24 per cent in fiscal year 2018, quadrupling from 6 per cent in 2015. It never exceeded 8 per cent from 2010 to 2015, the Obama years. The first-quarter denial rate for FY 2018, to match the first quarter rate for 2019, was not available.

The US announced that starting April 1, it will switch to a new system for processing H-1B petitions that will give priority to foreign workers with advanced degrees from an American institution of higher education, over those hired abroad, in India, China and other countries.

Under the proposed amendments, USCIS would first select the 65,000 visas from the cumulative pool of regular as well as advance degree holder applicants and 20,000 highly skilled H1-B visas would then be allotted among the remaining pool of unselected advance degree holder applicants.

Three-fourth H-1B visa holders are Indians: US report

According to the US Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS), there were as many as 4,19,637 foreign nationals working in the US on H-1B visas as on October 5. Of these, 3,09,986 are Indians, the USCIS said in its report ‘H-1B petitions by gender and country of birth fiscal year 2018’.

US awards far more H-1B visas outside cap, finds study

A total of 345,262 H-1B petitions were approved in fiscal 2016, including 230,759 in uncapped categories, the highest level yet, the Immigration Policy Institute said in a detailed report on H-1B visas.
