Want to go zip lining and scuba diving? Meghalaya might be an offbeat option for you

Meghalaya is emerging as a popular tourist destination in the North East, and boasts of adventure activities ranging from zip lining to trekking and river rafting.

Meghalaya Governor Ganga Prasad said the state has evolved as one of the most preferred tourist destinations in the North East. The governor unfurled the tricolour and took the salute at the Republic Day function at the Polo ground here.

“Meghalaya has been able to evolve as one of the most preferred destinations in the North East. Adventure tourism activities are being encouraged and there are a number of adventure destinations providing activities like zip lining, scuba diving, trekking, mountain biking, river rafting and camping,” he said.

He added that the state government is augmenting tourist accommodation facilities and building up the brand of the state through focused publicity in electronic and print media. He said these efforts will help provide ecologically sustainable tourism.

As the state prepares to host the national games in 2022, the governor said an indoor stadium will be constructed at Ampati in South West Garo Hills District and Pomlakarai in East Khasi Hills District.
