Indian content creator shocked after US cafe charges ₹72 to remove cheese from sandwich: 'Mera sar ghoom raha hai'

Imagine ordering a sandwich at a cafe and asking staff to leave out one ingredient and then being told that the request would cost extra. This is exactly what influencer Vagmita Singh said happened to her at a cafe in San Francisco, US. She claimed that a cafe charged her 75 cents, around ₹72, to remove cheese from her sandwich, leaving her baffled by the additional fee.
Taking to Instagram, Vagmita Singh shared the incident, questioning the practice. "Bhai ye chal kya raha hai America mein?" she said, before explaining that she had ordered a sandwich at a cafe in San Francisco and asked the waitress to remove the cheese.
Singh said that the waitress told her that the request would cost 75 cents. "Why are you charging me for something I'm not even having?" she asked. The waitress explained that the restaurant's recipes were fixed and that the chef had to put in "extra effort" to make the sandwich without cheese.
Singh appeared unconvinced by the explanation and joked about what could be charged next, including fees for not drinking Coke, not using the bathroom or not paying by cash. "Mera sar ghoom raha hai. Bye," she said.
Sharing the video, Singh wrote in the caption, "Extra effort to put less effort."

The post sparked reactions online, with several users sharing similar experiences of being charged extra for modifications or ingredient removals.
"Hahahah not new. Happened to me in 2015 in New Zealand. I asked them to remove patty from the burger and they asked me extra 5 dollars to remove it. I was surprised," one user wrote.
Another user jokingly explained the alleged logic behind the charge: "Normal order: Get frozen sandwich put in microwave. Special Order: Get frozen sandwich, Open it, remove cheese carefully without messing other things up, put it in Microwave. Hence extra effort."

A fourth user suggested telling restaurants about allergies when requesting ingredients to be removed. "A clever way to handle such restaurants is to tell them that you have allergies and they would happily remove those ingredients. Thank me later," the user wrote.
