Begaani Zameen, a daily soap on Imagine is reportedly set against conflicts between North Indians and Maharashtrians in the state. The original theme was a land dispute between Marathi and Awadhis but that changed last week following creative differences between the production house and the channel.

Saurabh Tewary, the head of fiction programming, Imagine, says that it is basically a love story between a Maharashtrian boy and a non-Maharashtrian girl. It’s about the problems they face while trying to work their relationship out in the city following opposition from family and community.

“We had several discussions with the creative teams before the show went on the floors, on everything from the story to the cast. Various ideas were discussed before we decided on a love story,” says Tewary.

The show flagged off with a working title yesterday. The promo, filmed nearly three weeks ago, were the first shoot to take place at the CST railway station after the 26/11 attacks two years ago. Tewary admits shooting the promo at CST but says they are awaiting creative clearances before going on air.

“The matter is with the association and undecided. We haven’t been told to remove Aarakshan from our title,” insists Tewary. “If the case is ruled in Prakashji’s favour, we’ll think of another title. Right now, we’re going ahead with it.”
