Kapil and I never fought: Sunil Grover

Comedian Sunil Grover's new untitled show, that also stars Manish Paul and Dolly Ahluwalia, will go on air next month. Grover talks about his new show, his old friends and more in a candid interview.

After a two-month break, TV star Sunil Grover is finally set to return to the tube on a popular channel with his new comedy show.



Incidentally, in this show, too, his character will dress up like a woman, tentatively called Chutki, which aims to deliberately remind audiences of his hit outing as Gutthi.





It was Sunil’s role as Gutthi (on the show Comedy Nights With ) that made him a household name.





But after differences with the channel, he quit the show in November. However, now, things are looking up for the actor.

Here, we talk to him about his new show and his old friends.



Today, would you say you are friends with Kapil?

and will always be, and I will always wish him well. We never fought, so a patch up is out of the question. We all greet each other and meet on and off. I am still friends with people who work on the show too.

Tell us about your new show.

I can’t say much about the concept yet, but it will be a full-fledged comedy show.



What about your new character, Chutki?

It (Chutki) might be one of the characters on the show. However, how we take it forward will be a mystery to the audience. You might even see the real Sunil Grover on the show. But as things aren’t locked yet, I can’t reveal the details.



The audience loved you as Guthhi on Comedy Circus and Comedy Nights With Kapil. What can they look forward to on this show?

All I know that my show will be funny and it will bring smiles on the faces of people.



Was it your decision to choose the 8.30 pm slot for your show so that it isn’t in direct competition with Kapil’s show?

That was the channel’s call.



Are you feeling nervous about hosting your own show?

What I feel is immaterial, but the reality is there for people to see. The show will air next month. I am an entertainer, and in the last two months, I didn’t do regular stuff on TV, so I am eager to come back.



Do you feel it will be tougher for you to establish your show due to the competition?

I was never confident in life (laughs). There is anxiety, but a certain amount of excitement too, about making people laugh. It’s a mixed feeling.



How difficult were these two months for you?

I was kept busy answering queries about my . It’s old news now. I want to move on. I have left everything behind. He (Kapil) has his show and now I have mine. I was quite occupied (in the last two months) with that. Thanks to this break, I got a chance to go for a jog every day and caught up on my sleep.
