Araghchi's savage jab; Iran mocks Trump's desperate plea for India to buy Russian oil amid war

Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi has taken aim at Donald Trump’s administration over its sudden reversal on Russian oil, saying the White House is now “begging” India and other countries to buy the same crude it had spent months trying to block. In a sharply worded post, Araghchi said Washington had bullied India into ending Russian oil imports, only to change course after two weeks of war with Iran sent global energy markets into turmoil and exposed the economic consequences of disruption around the Strait of Hormuz. He also mocked Europe for backing what he called an “illegal war” on Iran in hopes of winning U.S. support against Russia, calling that strategy “pathetic.” His remarks followed the U.S. decision to grant a temporary 30-day waiver allowing Indian refiners to purchase Russian crude already stranded at sea, a move the Treasury Department described as a short-term measure to stabilise oil supply. Importantly, India itself never publicly confirmed that it had agreed to stop buying Russian oil under any trade arrangement with Washington, allowing Tehran to portray the U.S. shift as both hypocritical and strategically weak.
