‘Benefits outweigh risk’: UK agency on Covid vaccine approval

The United Kingdom agency which cleared the Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine for public inoculation addressed doubts given the expedited nature of approval. UK gave its nod for the vaccine on December 2 with rollout expected from next week. Chief Executive of the Medicines and Healthcare Products Regulatory Agency, Dr June Raine, said that strict guidelines were adhered to, and the public has nothing to fear. Saying that benefits of the vaccine outweigh risks, she extolled the virtues of a 'rolling review' which ensured that a vaccine is made available to the public soon after successful trials.
