Covid scare: Bodies wash up on shores of river Ganga in UP's Ghazipur

- People living near banks of Ganga in UP's Ghazipur once again witnessed a ghastly sight. Locals found dead bodies washing up on the ghats of the river on Saturday. Earlier, bodies of suspected Covid patients washed up on the banks in Bihar's Buxar. Residents of Ghazipur have expressed concerns over the spread of diseases. “After looking at the bodies, it seemed like they have been floating for a while. It is quite possible that the dead bodies came from Ghazipur's Chandauli side. Many bodies were half burnt, I think this happened due to shortage of wood.” Bodies were also found buried in the sand in UP's Unnao district near the river. Such incidents have sparked fears about the scale of Covid crisis in rural areas. Authorities feel kin of Covid victims may not have been able to find space for last rites.
