Covid update: Dogs may sniff virus; Sisodia has dengue too; WHO action review

From Delhi Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia contracting dengue while already suffering from Covid-19, to the first report of review of the World Health Organisation's response soon - here are the top news updates on the ongoing pandemic. An independent panel had been set up to review WHO's actions amid sharp criticism of the global health body and China during the World Health Assembly. It will submit its first report on October 5-6, 2020. However, some diplomats believe that the panel is unlikely to be severely critical about WHO's actions with regard to China, the original epicentre of the outbreak. Meanwhile, Finland is carrying out a pilot project to see if dogs can sniff out Covid on human samples. A team of 10 dogs trained to detect Covid has been deployed at the Vantaa-Helsinki airport to check passenger samples. However, volunteers will have to get traditional test done too, since the dogs' efficiency is not certified yet. Back home, West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee announced plan to hold Durga Puja this year amid precautions to prevent Covid spread.
