Covid update: India’s Oxford vaccine trial; GST cut hope; China’s 9-day claim

From the trial of Oxford university's vaccine candidate beginning in India, to the hope of a cut in Goods and Services Tax rate on two-wheelers - here are the top updates on the Covid-19 pandemic. The Serum Institute of India began the trial of 'Covishield', the vaccine developed at Oxford, with the first patients being identified at BVDU Medical College and Hospital, Pune. Meanwhile, the government revealed that it is in talks with Russia over the vaccine recently cleared for use by the latter. The Director General of the Indian Council of Medical Research, Balram Bhargava, blamed 'irresponsible' people for the spread of the disease in India. Even as new cases see an upward climb, the country's recovery rate has reached 75.92%. Public transport services, including buses, resumed in Bihar with effect from August 25. The state has had over 1.23 lakh Covid cases so far with over 500 deaths. In international news, China has claimed that it has seen 9 consecutive days of zero local transmissions of the disease.
