Covid update: Indian vaccine result out; Pakistan’s highest death toll

From an Indian vaccine-maker releasing its trial results, to five states in the country accounting for more than half of the total active cases - here are the top news updates on the Covid-19 pandemic. Bharat Biotech said that Phase 1 trials showed that its Covaxin vaccine produces robust immune response, while adverse side-effects in some cases were mild and were resolved. The Union government revealed that Uttar Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, West Bengal, Kerala, and Maharashtra account for 56% of the active cases in the country. In international news, the United Kingdom has vaccinated almost 1.4 lakh people in its first week of the immunisation programme. Panama joined the list of countries which have approved the Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine. The US pharma is also seeking emergency use authorisation in India.
