Marking Ajay Devgn's 100th film in Bollywood, Tanhaji narrates the story of yet another unsung Maratha hero. Also starring Saif Ali Khan and Kajol, the film is a visual spectacle from the word go with elaborate sets, larger than life characters, special effects using VFX and CGI, and edge-of-the-seat war scenes. Tanhaji Malusare (Ajay) a trusted Subedar of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj (Sharad Kelkar) is determined to reclaim the Kondhana Fort (now called Sinhagad) which Shivaji had to cede to the Mughal emperor Aurangzeb (Luke Kenny) under the treaty of Purandhar. How he captures the impregnable fort being guarded by Rajput commander Udaybhan (Saif) and where the fierce battle leads to forms the basic premise of the story. Tanhaji is magnanimous, high on visual impact, has powerful action backed by rock solid performances. You come out of the theatre calling it a paisa vasool film.
