Manchester United mark 60 years since tragic Munich air disaster

February 6th 2018 marks the 60th anniversary of the Munich air disaster, where eight Manchester United footballers and three club officials lost their lives, in 1958. The club were returning from a European Cup match in Belgrade, via Munich, when British European Airways Flight 609 crashed on its third attempt at take off. I t was a squad considered by many to be one of the greatest generations of players, in English football history, labelled the “Busby Babes”, after manager Matt Busby, who survived the tragedy, along with Bobby Charlton.
