Speaking at the 20th edition of the Hindustan Times Leadership Summit, 2022, Chief Justice of India DY Chandrachud said that the law should not be used as an instrument of oppression by those who handle it. He added that judges should have the ability to hear unheard voices and unseen faces in the system as this alone can sustain the judicial institutions in the long run. “Entering chambers of senior counsel -- it's an old boys club. How do you gain access to chambers? By tapping your connections and networks. Until we have a democratised and merit-based access to the entry point in the legal profession, we won't have more women,” said the CJI.
