Bellandur Lake in Bengaluru catches fire

Updated on Feb 20, 2017 04:35 pm IST

The severely polluted Bellandur lake, the largest in Bengaluru city, caught fire after a clump of weed and chemical effluents floating on it burst into flames. Fire in a garbage dump on the banks of the lake is said to be the cause of the blaze. Footage shows dense smoke emanating from the four-kilometre long lake that remains heavily covered with foam and effluents. However, city's fire and municipal officers have been unable to contain or stop the fire so far. The Bellandur Lake was in the news last year after a spillover of toxic froth from the water body blocked several roads.
