Chief of Defence Staff: Cabinet clears new post for military advice to govt

In what is being billed as a 'major reform' in the defence sector, the Union Cabinet approved the creation of the position of Chief of Defence Staff. The decision was taken at the Cabinet meeting on December 24, 2019. The announcement regarding the same had first been made by the Prime Minister during his Independence Day speech on August 15, 2019. Defence Minister Rajnath Singh hailed the move as 'historic'.
