Ex-bureaucrat Shaktikanta Das becomes new RBI governor

Former Economic Affairs Secretary Shaktikanta Das has been appointed as new Governor of RBI. Shaktikanta Das is a member of the Finance Commission of India. Das was appointed for a tenure of 3 years, making him the 25th governor of RBI. The decision was taken by the Appointments Committee of the Cabinet. The new appointment came after Urijt Patel quit the position. Patel's term as RBI governor was to end in September 2019. Patel's term as RBI governor was to end in September 2019.
