Girish Chandra Murmu takes oath as J&K L-G, RK Mathur as L-G of Ladakh

Girish Chandra Murmu took oath as the first Lt. Governor of the union territory of Jammu and Kashmir. The oath was administered by Chief Justice of J&K High Court, Gita Mittal. The swearing-in ceremony was held at Raj Bhavan in Srinagar. A 1985 batch IAS officer from Gujarat, Murmu was expenditure secretary at the Centre. RK Mathur also took oath as the Lt. Governor of Ladakh. Mathur inspected a guard of honour by the local police after the ceremony. J&K officially lost its statehood and was split into two UTs - J&K and Ladakh.
