Like China, talk to Pakistan: J&K ex-CM’s advice on border skirmishes

Updated on Sept 19, 2020 10:20 pm IST

Former Chief Minister of the erstwhile state of Jammu and Kashmir, and serving Member of Parliament, Farooq Abdullah commented on violence along India's disputed border with Pakistan. Comparing the government's stand on tension with China and the ongoing talks at multiple levels, Abdullah said that dialogue should be restarted with Islamabad to 'find a way out' of the current situation. He also batted for the restoration of 4G internet in the Union Territory as students were suffering, especially at a time when the Covid-19 pandemic has rendered almost all education online. Farooq's latter comments were echoed by Sougata Ray, leader of the All India Trinamool Congress. Apart from normal internet speed, he also sought the release of all political leaders who were detained in the aftermath of the abrogation of J&K's special status in August 2019. He said that 230 politicians were still under detention, while some of those who had been released had been made to sign a bond promising not to make political statements.
