Union Minister for Women and Child Development Maneka Gandhi addressing a gathering on the rising violence against women at Goa Fest 2017 in Panaji, blamed the feature movies for promoting sexual harassment. The Women and Child Development Minister said that the movies have always portrayed the idea of sexually harassing a woman in order to win her love. She reiterated her point by saying that the movies show that the hero insults, harasses the heroine but later she falls in love with her. According to Maneka, such portrayal could actually promote violence against women.
