‘NEP focuses on critical thinking’: PM Modi, President Kovind address Governors’ conference
President Ram Nath Kovind, Prime Minister Narendra modi along with, Education Minister Ramesh Pokhriyal Nishank and others participated in the Governors' Conference on NEP via video conference. PM Modi said that the new National Education Policy (NEP) focuses on learning instead of studying and goes beyond curriculum to focus on critical thinking. “Earlier, students used to pick a stream beyond their aptitude and they would realise it much later, and these problems have been addresses in the NEP,” said PM Modi. In his address, President Ram Nath Kovind said that the Centre and State governments will have to increase investment in research and innovation. He said, “It is seen that investment in research and innovation in America is 2.8 per cent of the GDP, in South Korea, it is 4.2 per cent, and 4.3 per cent in Israel, while in India it is just 0.7 per cent.
