It's the 70th year since India attained Independence. At midnight, Lord Mountbatten transferred power to Jawaharlal Nehru. And then came Nehru's famous speech holding the flag where he said, “long years ago we made a tryst with destiny, and now that time comes when we shall redeem our pledge... At the stroke of today's midnight hour, when the world sleeps, India will awake to life and freedom.”
