61-kg gold idol of Ganesha unveiled ahead of Ganesh Chaturthi

Amid splendid grandeur of the season of festivities, Mumbai has come up with a unique idol of revered Hindu Lord Ganesha of gold weighing 61 kilograms. The highly decorated idol has been put on display ahead of the Hindu festival, Ganesh Chaturthi, which falls on September 11 this year. During the festival, Ganesha idols are worshipped at hundreds of pandals or makeshift tents before they are immersed in water bodies. The golden Ganesha idol has been specially ordered by the Gaud Saraswat Brahmin Mandal (GSBM),which hosts one of the city's biggest pandals. The cost of the idol is estimated to be at least Rs.130 million.
