Students of the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Kanpur on Friday welcomed the institute's decision to defy the government's proposal of a common engineering entrance exam. Students also urged other IIT's to follow suit and opt for a separate entrance test. Meanwhile, professors of IIT Kanpur reasoned that a common entrance exam would fail to test the aptitude of the students coming from different schooling backgrounds, saying that their defiance was not against the government.
