Kanhaiya Kumar returned to JNU on Thursday evening after spending almost three months in jail on sedition charges. Thousands lined up to cheer the man at the centre of a swirling nationwide debate on free speech. Fiery, rousing and humorous - Kanhaiya's hour-long speech at JNU completely gripped the nation. Standing outside JNU's administrative block, his speech was beamed live on prime-time television and #KanhaiyaKumar trended on Twitter. A close friend Amit Kumar, who shared the hostel room in Patna told HT that Kumar was one of the best speakers in college. “He used to win the debate competition. His knowledge about politics is noteworthy.”
