Iran’s Fars news agency reported that Iran’s Joint Air Defense Headquarters said the aircraft was intercepted and targeted by ground-to-air defences. The location is significant because Hormuz Island sits near the Strait of Hormuz, one of the most sensitive military and energy chokepoints in the region. Any credible shootdown there would signal another sharp escalation in the air war over the Gulf.
