Punjab CM Amarinder Singh wants Indo-Pak trade to resume. Here’s why

Updated on May 15, 2019 07:46 pm IST

Punjab chief minister Captain Amarinder Singh believes that the Balakot air strike impacted the lives and livelihoods on the state's border villages the most. “When you do these kinds of things (Balakot)… retaliation comes to our villages on the border,” he told Hindustan Times' Political Editor Vinod Sharma in an exclusive interview. 'You stopped trade in retaliation against Pulwama. But trade has not stopped altogether. It is going on via Kandla, Gujarat, via Bombay. It's going to Pakistan via Dubai. Why are we doing all this subterfuge?” he said. India withdrew the 'Most Favoured Nation' status from Pakistan after the Pulwama terror attack, affecting trade across the border.
