Aligarh review | Manoj Bajpayee is superb, movie brilliant

Aligarh, director Hansal Mehta's latest offering, is yet another gritty film on Professor Shrinivas Ramchandra Siras of the Aligarh Muslim University.

Manoj Bajpayee plays Prof Siras, a homosexual suspended for having consensual sex with a rickshaw puller in the privacy of his house. He was found dead just days after the Allahabad high court looked into his case and gave a verdict in his favour in 2010.

Inspired by the professor, the movie plays out a strong message that advocates the right to privacy and equality. Manoj Bajpayee has delivered a stellar performance and at a time when notions of morality and jingoism are obstructing the ideas of freedom, democracy and individualism, Aligarh becomes a must-watch.
