‘Not on Twitter…’: New JNU V-C alleges conspiracy; Shuns controversial account

- After uproar over old tweets from a Twitter handle, Jawaharlal Nehru University's new vice-chancellor Santishree Dhulipudi Pandit distanced herself from the controversy and denied having a Twitter account. Screenshots of old tweets purportedly posted from the Twitter account @SantishreeD were circulated on social media. One of the tweets posted from the account referred to Mahatma Gandhi’s killing claimed his assassin Godse thought the “action was important and identified the solution for a united India." Other tweets advocated an end to funding for “communal campuses like Jamia and St Stephen’s.” The Jawaharlal Nehru University Teachers' Association (JNUTA) appealed to the newly appointed Vice-Chancellor Santishree D Pandit to "restore the sanctity" of statutory bodies and engage in transparent dialogic processes of decision making for a "peaceful and productive" tenure.
