Recent rains not Monsoon…: IMD stuns Mumbai as parts of India still wait for relief from heat

Published on Jun 23, 2026 04:37 pm IST

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has said that the southwest monsoon is showing signs of revival and is likely to reach Mumbai within the next 48 hours, bringing fresh hopes for rainfall across Maharashtra. According to the IMD, the showers received in Mumbai on June 22 were pre-monsoon rains and not the official onset of the monsoon. The weather agency said conditions have become favourable for the monsoon to advance gradually along the west coast and into parts of central India.
