Muslims say ‘no’ to Friday Namaz on allotted land near Bhojshala temple?

Updated on Jul 18, 2026 10:51 pm IST

Muslims in Dhar, Madhya Pradesh, refused to offer Friday prayers at a site allotted by the district administration after the community said the designated location was too far from the Bhojshala complex. The development came after the Supreme Court directed authorities to earmark an open space "adjacent or near to" the complex for Friday namaz between 1 pm and 3 pm. The district administration had proposed a site near Chalees Peer in Maliwada village, around 1.5 km from the Bhojshala complex, but Muslim community leaders rejected the location and instead offered prayers at local mosques. The dispute follows the Supreme Court's July 14 decision not to stay a Madhya Pradesh High Court ruling concerning the religious character of the Bhojshala Temple–Kamal Maula Mosque complex, while directing authorities to facilitate Friday prayers at a nearby open space. Watch the full report for the latest developments in the Bhojshala dispute and the Supreme Court's directions.
