Putin fear spooks EU? Top diplomat changes tune on ‘limit Russian army’ remark | Ukraine War | Trump

EU foreign policy chief Kaja Kallas has doubled down on her controversial claim that Russia has “invaded 19 countries in 100 years,” while appearing to walk back last week’s explosive suggestion that the EU should consider “curbing” the size of the Russian army. Speaking as she arrived at a meeting of EU defence ministers in Brussels, Kallas insisted that her remarks were meant to highlight the imbalance in pressuring Ukraine’s military while ignoring Moscow’s long record of aggression. Kallas stated that the EU should not dictate the size of any sovereign country’s armed forces but stressed that the Russian military poses a direct threat to every nation along its borders. She argued that if Ukraine — a country she says “hasn’t invaded anybody” — faces constraints, then equal scrutiny should be placed on Russia.
