Scared of Iran, Saudi Arabia banned US troops, forced Trump to end Hormuz mission in 1 Day

Updated on May 07, 2026 12:38 pm IST

The Gulf crisis has taken another dramatic turn as reports claim Saudi Arabia blocked key U.S. military access, forcing President Donald Trump to abruptly halt “Project Freedom” within just 36 hours. The operation was launched to escort commercial ships through the Strait of Hormuz amid rising tensions with Iran, but the mission reportedly triggered anger among Gulf allies, especially Riyadh. According to multiple reports, Saudi Arabia denied the U.S. military permission to use Prince Sultan Airbase and restricted access to Saudi airspace for the operation. The move created major operational challenges for American forces and exposed growing cracks between Washington and its long-time Gulf partners. Trump reportedly held urgent calls with Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman and other regional leaders, but the disagreement remained unresolved. Meanwhile, reports suggest Washington and Tehran are simultaneously exploring a possible one-page memorandum aimed at ending the conflict, even as military confrontations continue in regional waters. Analysts say the failed Hormuz mission has highlighted the limits of U.S. influence in the region and raised fresh concerns over global energy security. The Strait of Hormuz remains one of the world’s most critical oil shipping routes, making every military and diplomatic move closely watched worldwide.
