Kerala hosts 1st ever transgender athletic meet

While activists of the Lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) community are still battling for their rights across the nation, Kerala went a step ahead and by organising the first-ever transgender athletic meet. With a footfall of 132 participants from across 12 districts, the mega sports event was held at the Central Stadium. State's Sports Minister AC Moideen inaugurated the fest which had six events- 100 metres, 200 metres and 400 metres races, 100x4 relay, high jump and shot put. The mega event was jointly organised by the Kerala State Sports Council and Sexual Gender Minority Federation of Kerala.
