RIP Milkha Singh: The 'Flying Sikh' leaves lasting legacy on Indian sports

- Legendary sprinter Milkha Singh died of post Covid-19 complications late on Friday night. 91-year-old Milkha was admitted to the intensive care unit at the PGIMER, Chandigarh. Milkha Singh's wife, Nirmal Kaur succumbed to Covid-19 complications on June 13. The 85-year-old former India women’s volleyball captain was admitted at a Mohali hospital . The duo is survived by their son, 49-year-old golfer Jeev Milkha Singh & three daughters. PM Narendra Modi took to Twitter & paid his tribute to the champion sprinter. Milkha’s health worsened on Friday, barely three days after he was shifted out of ICU. The four-time Asian Games gold medallist & Commonwealth Games gold medallist had tested positive for Covid on May 19. The legend had been part of Chandigarh’s folklore since he settled in the city in early 1960s. Known as 'The Flying Sikh', he never lost the crown of being India’s greatest sprinter. Milkha has inspired a generation of sportspersons with his stories of success, dedication & discipline.
