Starmer comes out guns blazing, demands apology from Trump over Afghanistan war jibe at NATO allies
Published on Jan 24, 2026 08:36 am IST
Keir Starmer condemns Donald Trump’s Afghanistan comments as “insulting and frankly appalling,” framing them as an affront to the 457 UK service personnel killed and many more wounded in that war. He says that if he himself had spoken that way he would “certainly apologize,” and offers a direct apology to Diane Dernie, the mother of a soldier badly injured in Afghanistan, while stressing he understands the hurt caused to bereaved and injured families across the country.
