Tensions between Venezuela and the United States have escalated sharply after Vice President Delcy Rodríguez accused Washington of plotting to seize Venezuela’s vast oil reserves. Speaking at OPEC’s second ministerial conference, Rodríguez warned that the U.S. may even resort to force as part of what she described as a growing campaign of “harassment and threats” directed by President Donald Trump. Reading a statement signed by President Nicolás Maduro, Rodríguez condemned the increased U.S. military presence in the Caribbean and pointed to reports of more than 20 bombings of small vessels allegedly tied to drug trafficking. The Venezuelan government argues that these actions, coupled with Trump’s recent call for airlines to avoid Venezuelan airspace, pose a direct threat to regional peace and economic stability.
